The MLS Wind Turbine Control Design (WTCD) Toolbox comprises a comprehensive set of tools that will help engineers deal with all tasks relative to control design, controller performance evaluation and load calculations.
The Toolbox was developed by MLS for its customers with this in mind, and as a means of transferring MLS know-how to these tasks. As such, the toolbox contains algorithms to calculate all relevant measures of performance of wind turbine controllers. With these tools not only will the engineers gain the capability of analysing and designing controllers, they will also gain insight into which measures MLS considers critical when evaluating control performance.
The toolbox will be provided as a Matlab package. A comprehensive online help will accompany every algorithm following a period of free support; specific training courses can also be provided.
Control Design Cycle:
The MLS WTCD Toolbox offers utilities to help in every aspect of the control design cycle and to aid in the implementation phase of the controllers.
Well-validated models including all dynamics relevant to the control problem and sufficiently flexible to cope with a broad range of wind turbines. There are linear and non-linear models to help with both sides of controller design.
A comprehensive set of tools to speed up the design process cycle, including the MLS Control Designer for linear control design.
Tools for easy implementation of the controller into the PLC: the MLS Gateway provides a direct link between most aero-elastic simulation packages and Simulink; the Integrated Control Platform provides a link between the aero-elastic packages and most commercial PLCs.
Controller performance analysis capabilities to support optimal tuning with minimum effort.
Post-processing tools, which analyse the most important performance measurements for the controller from simulations, including fatigue analyisyis via Rain-Flow counting, extreme loads calculations, component damage snapshots, dynamic curves and/or the MLS Data Analyser.
Controllers
MLS has developed a series of controllers that can be tailored to specific requirements. The controllers are not part of the Toolbox, but can be purchased separately. Whether you are interested in load reduction or only in high-performance controllers, MLS will offer you every advantage.
Training courses
MLS training courses are designed to provide engineers with a thorough understanding of wind turbine control and its role, and to provide the necessary control background required to design a wind turbine controller. Controller design, performance assessment, and impact on the overall wind turbine design will be topics covered in the course.
