• MLS to present on at Wind Expo Panama 2009 Carlos Gonzalez, Principal Development Engineer at MLS will present on the role of control on wind turbine technological development at the upcoming Wind Expo Panama 2009. The conference and exhibition is the premier Latin American Wind Power show and is being held this year at the ATLAPA Convention Center in Panama City, Panama, September 2 – 4.

• 7th International Exhibition on Wind Energy MLS will exhibit at the Wind PowerExpo 2009 in Zaragoza, Spain on 22-24 September 2009. MLS will showcase a working model of its P3000 wind turbine pitch control system as well as its new line of linear electric pitch actuators.

• European Offshore Wind 2009 Conference & Exhibition MLS will exhibit at the European Offshore Wind 2009 Conference & Exhibition in Stockholm, Sweden on 14-16 September 2009. The event is the world's largest offshore conference and MLS will be on hand to meet attendees and present the Pitch Actuator and i-Yaw products as part of our advanced wind turbine control solutions offering.

• Visit MLS Intelligent Control Dynamics at the WWEC2009, Jeju, Korea MLS Intelligent Control Dynamics will be exhibiting at the WWEC2009 World Wind Energy Conference and Exhibition in Jeju, Korea on June 23-25, 2009 at Booth #18. MLS will be showcasing their Intelligent Actuator blade control technology. A working model will be on hand to demonstrate pitch actuator independent blade control. Also featured at the show will be the MLS Wind Turbine Control Design Toolbox –a multi-component, MATLAB-based software package designed to facilitate control design, controller performance evaluation and load calculation tasks for engineers.

• MLS Launches the Wind Turbine Control Design Toolbox MLS has just launched the Wind Turbine Control Design Toolbox (WTCD). The MLS Toolbox is a comprehensive set of Matlab based tools which will help engineers deal with all tasks relative to control design, controller performance evaluation and load calculations. With these tools, not only will engineers gain the capability of analysing and designing controllers, they will gain insight into which measures MLS considers critical when evaluating control performance. The Toolbox contains utilities to help on all stages of the design cycle to analysis and implementation. Included in the Toolbox are the MLS Gateway, which allow running aero-elastic packages such as Flex or Bladed with controllers implemented as Simulink Blocks, or the MLS PLC Link, which allows the generation of IEC code directly from the Simulink block diagrams. • Getting the Pitch Angle Right An article introducing the MLS’s Pitch System named “Getting the Pitch Angle Right” was published recently in the professional wind power magazine “Wind Power Technology”, which detailed the features and superiorities of the MLS Pitch system and its control solution. • Publication on the Intelligent Actuator MLS will publish several papers in the fore-coming months detailing the characteristics of the Intelligent Actuator. First of all, during the EWEC the paper “Alleviation of Unbalanced Rotor Loads by Single Blade Controllers” will be presented in the Control Strategies Session CS2 on March the 18th. • Article about MLS Advanced Control Solutions for Wind Turbines in CV Energia. MLS presents in the November edition of the well known Spanish energy magazine, CV Energia, with a strong image and a tow-page article on its performance and stability improvements through the control algorithms.

• Doctoral Training Centre Professor W. E. Leithead, CTA and partner of MLS, who is also the Director of the Industrial Control Center at the University of Strathclyde, has won funding to create the Doctoral Training Centre for Wind Energy (DTC) at the University of Strathclyde. The DTC aims at channeling all the Wind Energy expertise within the University and creating a unique excellence centre in the UK that will form over 50 PhD students in the fore-coming years.
