Tidal turbines use technology similar to utility scale wind turbines. Rotating speed is a function of tidal velocity. MLS designs control algorithms to regulate speed in order to maximise power output whilst minising loads along the turbine. The tidal turbine control system starts pitching the blades at rated power. Water turbulence affecting tidal turbines can be a good deal more turbulent that normal wind speed, making the tidal turbine problem a difficult one to solve.

MLS strongly believes in tidal energy as an important part of the future renewable mix. Tidal energy has great potential all along the European shore, where some strong tidal zones can be found. Also, tidal energy offers the advantage of being more predictable than Solar and Wind Energy.
