The Intelligent Actuator is MLS’ innovative control application for Individual Pitch Control. With the Intelligent Actuator, the intelligence is embedded locally to each wind turbine blade. Rotor imbalances and loads are minimized by adjusting each blade’s pitch angle individually in response to the local optical fiber measurement of its loads.
The Intelligent Actuator uses “local information” of wind turbine blade loads to balance loads across the rotor.
Use the Intelligent Actuator to:
- Reduce tower fatigue damage
- Reduce loads on main shaft bearings
- Rotor balancing brings mean moment to almost zero
- Improved energy output by allowing for use of bigger blades.
